Bikepacking
What is bikepacking? There are many different opinions on this subject and there is really no one right answer. On one end of the spectrum is the classic touring on a road bike with panniers and skinny tires on pavement and at the other end is a mountain bike with framebags and fat tires on difficult single track, and then there is everything in-between. It’s all some form of getting around on a bike with all of your stuff.
One distinction may be as follows:
Bike Touring tends to be more about those who really just want to go traveling and live life on the road.
Bikepacking is more about those who really just want to go biking and is primarily a way of going on a longer bike ride.
Another distinction may be that bikepacking is more about tailoring and optimizing the bike ‘rig’ to deliver the best possible ride under conditions often far more challenging than those encountered on a regular cycle tour. This is what we focus on; customizing the experience for a variety of terrain whether it be pavement, dirt, gravel, singletrack, doubletrack, or snow.
